Events & Causes: Solar panel power for Ukraine

We recently joined students and volunteers at Fairview High School to learn how to breathe new life into old solar panels. Come mid-May, the 30 panels, which were decorated with messages of hope and support, will be loaded into a container destined for war-torn Ukraine, where they will feel like a lifeline, says Andy Lenec, the program’s leader.

This will be the second shipment of panels Lenec has sent to Ukraine, where, he says, “To have one of these things is like gold. If there’s a village that has no electricity, this can be its common charging port for phones and computers and other electronic devices.”

Andrij Lenec is talking to solar panel event participants in April

Earlier this year, Lenec sent 27 panels he had converted with Rich Stromberg and Equitable Solutions to villages across the country and said the response was incredible. “When the power goes out, people do not know if there is an invasion coming.” The panels let them charge their phones and power their computers, so they know what’s happening.

If you have a panel you’d like to donate, email us at ukraine.sunflower.seeds@gmail.com or Lenec at alenec@optonline.net. There are many other ways you can help us help Ukrainian Defenders and Civilians: To learn more and support our work, visit https://www.sunflowerseedsukraine.org/
